"Nature does not hurry, and yet everything is accomplished."  Lao Tzu

Taoism is an ancient Chinese philosophy which emphasizes harmony with the Tao, the source and energy behind everything that is. Aspects of Taoist meditation practice are often used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and various martial arts.

This monthly one hour meditation session at Inner Fields incorporates Qi Gong, various breathing techniques, and involves methods of visualization, mindfulness, and contemplation of non-duality. Beginners to meditation are welcome. Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese practice which combines physical postures with meditative breath work to cultivate the flow of qi or 'vital life force' through the body. It is often practiced in conjunction with various martial arts as a way to focus intention and calm the mind, but it is also a healing practice which increases vitality and stamina, reduces stress, and promotes positive introspection and inner strength. The slow gentle movements of Qi Gong can be easily adapted, even for the physically challenged, and can be practiced by all age groups and fitness levels. Through continued practice, participants can expect to develop inner awareness and insight.

Qi Gong is best performed early in the morning when Yang Qi is strongest, so this morning meditation will be followed by a fresh vegetarian breakfast (with gluten-free considerations).

Taganyahu Swao is a father of two boys and has been working with inner city youth since 2005 in the New York City public school system. He began training in Qi Gong 7 years ago, during which time his teachers shared Taoist meditation with him. Attending acupuncture school, Tagan learned more about Qi and the significant role Taoism played in the Internal Arts and Chinese medicine, and is now a bodyworker having graduated with a Master’s in Acupuncture in 2015.  His passion is working with children and his vision is for all inner city youth to have access to the healing arts of Yoga, QiGong and Tai Qi.
